Melee anyone?
I have owned a melee guild that i made myself for about alittle over a year. Its names EMW [Mele]...EMW stands for Elite Melee Warriors...when the guild was first made it was just for a few friends and i who really enjoyed doing melee dueling. we laid rules, made a website, so on and so forth. eventully they all left do to internal conflict however i kept the guild.
Pros and Cons of Melee Dueling on Guild Wars.
Pros:
-very user-skill based (this means that in the duels the player that knows how to manage their characters skills and enegry best will come out on top...its more of a duel of battle over whos more skilled in the useage of the char, than a battle over who has the better char and spells.)
-fun one on one matches, aswell as very complex and epic team vs team matches (its fun to do 1v1 matches with people, but the real fun comes to life when you do 2v2 or more. this opens the builds up to a whole new variety of skills that before had no true implication, such has hundred blades and cyclone axe, allowing a player to attack the masses insted of just a single player.)
-HARD (this can be very hard, especially if played by the rules...its not uncommon for someone whos new to it to lose their first several duels before getting a win.)
~~there are more Pros i can list, however ill get to the cons.~~
Cons:
-some may not like the idea of dueling close range. (some people just love their elementalists and other casters which is fine, to each their own)
-HARD (yet again this comes up...it can be quite hard...and some may find themselfs getting discuraged)
-The rules! some people dont like to play by a set of rules, however the way i see it rules are what make it fun. think of it like a sport...what fun or what challenge would there be to a sport if you didnt have to play by a set of rules?
The Rules:
-Warriors Only (any secondary class is fine)
-Enchantments can be used.
-Enchantment stripping spells and hexes cannot be used.
-No Healing, this rule is also relitive to Enchantments. you cannot use an enchantment which heals you either directly, per hit, or life regeneration.
-No Hexes at all.
-Conditions such as Bleeding, Crippling, and ect can only be caused by a physical attack. example: Sever Artery, or Deadly Ripose to cause bleeding, however using blinding flash or throw dirt to cause blindness is illlegal.
-Counter attacking skills can be used. example: Ripose, or Shield bash.
-Stance Interupt skills can be used.
-Stances can be used.
-Spells which remove conditions can be used.
-Damage adders are ok. example Illusionary Weapon. as you know, this skill replaces your normaly physical damage and puts in a consistant direct damage. this still counts because it is, in a way, still a physical attack. This rule also applies to some Ritualist weapon skills.
-Shadow Stepping can be used, however it cannot be used to heal you.
Thats basiclly it for the rules. you may think with all of these rules the builds will be very limited, however that couldnt be more wrong...i have made over 25 builds under these rules, and 18 of those are with just a sword, the others were with an axe. im yet to dwell into hammers but iv seen some of the skills and they have alot of potential.
If anyone is interested just let me know. You dont have to leave your current guild to participate i can just simply add you as a guest. if you would like to have a duel just to see what is like then im up for that aswell, im normally able to get on between the hours of 5PM-11PM Eastern time. Characers name is Justin The Defender.
Thanks for reading all of this.

i cant do anything right now, im at work.
why is there so much hostility toward this?
if you dont like it, get out of it...
healing: anything that adds back to your life.
why?
damage taken is damage taken, and if healing was allowed it would be possible to make unkillable chars by these rules. so healing is just ban all together.

W/P (The rules don't say anything about having to actually use melee)
Crippling Anthem (You physical attack is the thing that actually cripples, so it's okay)
Barbed Spear
Wild Throw
Merciless Spear
Remedy Signet
Signet of Aggression
Balanced Stance
Shield Bash
Not a perfect build, too many blockable things, but maybe you see a flaw in your plan...?

you need to use your imagination when it comes to building these chars...the rules set here leave it open enough for so many ideas, yet you only want to think inside the box. i didnt mention that the attacks had to be melee because i figured it was self explanitory, like i said that was most of the rules, another rule is no ranged attacks...figured people would figure that out but suppose not lol

Seems you and your buddies invented a nice enough mini-game.
Reminds me of one other player-invented minigame:the dodgeball using [[Lightning Orb]. It's own set of rules, and good enough for Anet to incorporate it actually in the game as the Dragon Arena.
Maybe you are able to get some encouraging responses, just don't let other people spoil your fun.

Funny, i wanted to mention dodgeball.
See, that game was perfect: Well Ballanced. All about fun and also about player skill. Simple rules, no abuses possible. It was kinda non-childish in execution too.
Its really contrasts to OPs game. Duels are mostly just ego stuff with 100+1 lame builds participating in buildwars. No player skill, lots of frustration, IN YOUR FACE LOOSER! kind of fun.
Also, i would like to remind you that OP himself confessed that his guild that was all about this minigame was torn apart by internal conflicts ... surely it couldnot be because of this minigame?

1v1 Warrior duels are fun - I've tried a few. Also playing tournaments like these will not make you a bad player, everyone knows that what works against a Warrior will not necessarily work against any other class. Seems to me these little tournaments are just a fun way to play the game differently - a mini-game as someone said earlier. Using the OP's rules and guidelines, there would have to be a lot of strategy involved in a lengthy tournament of this type. Take some of GW's best PVE/PVP players, put them in a contest of this sort - do you really think it would evolve down to just a few builds? I doubt it.
Someone that does a lot of 1v1 would have to apply a lot of strategy to continue playing - over time it have to turn into a thinking mans game. Try it, once you get your ass kicked a few times you'll realize your opponents aren't just a bunch of wammos - it takes a lot of thinking to put together these types of builds if you're going against the same group of players again and again. And if you happen to win, trust me, the guy will be ready for your build next bout.
Put your money where your mouth is - do you really think your smart enough to beat the OP? I doubt it. It seems he's quite experienced at this.

seems some people are starting to catch on good.
if i typed out the full rules there is no room for people to slip through.
the "internal conflict" was because of one member. he was sort of the co-owner of the guild and he decided he wanted to change the rules to make them allow hexes and such, basicly turning this back into just normal guild wars...i wasnt about to let that happen. so before he could start re-writing everything i kicked him...and got into a huge argument over it so i just killed the guild off...most of the members quit, a few stopped playing because it wasnt going on anymore.
its been about 6 months now since then.
the reason i dont allow assassins and drevs is because i wanted to keep it simple, yet complex. assassins wouldnt do so hot going by these rules and trying to compete. shield bash on the lead attack of an assassin and hes done for...keep in mind hes lower def then the warrior and normally lower life aswell, and if he cant put together his combo...hes a goner...drevs also have a hard time conforming to the rules however they can do it...
if you have a drev or assassin build you would like to try out just let me know, ill setup a time for us to try it
also maybe i should add this:
i have a ladder setup for this, if you enter in a character to the ladder, you are only allowed 2 different builds to chose from.
these builds are only known by me, or an officer...and you are not allowed to change these builds before dueling for rank on the ladder.
once the game has begun you are not allowed to leave to change your build...its a best 2 out of 3...
what this does is make it so you have to setup a char to cope with a few possible things. so you cannot just setup for ripose assuming that the person is using a mass damage setup...because you may wind up with a ripose against a 55 setup...with no way to counter it.

thats very straight forward, and these builds dont have to be as such
not all sworders are going to be ripose.
not all axers are going to use shock axe.
there are alot of builds, alot of ways to do things, and its up to you to figure out what build works best for you, and to be adaptive...
its not hard to beat ripose...
a 55 setup with unblockable attacks can destroy a ripser, where as a psn/open wounds setup will destroy the 55...however a anti block / psn setup will destory both...aswell as a knock down / 55 can also beat both...
hybrids are very important...using more than one form of attack gives you the best odds of winning vs whatever may come your way

So your reason for disallowing other classes is because you don't think they'd follow the rules? PM me under Nidy Alensit. My assassin would love to fight.
